BOKOR DELIVERS KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT THE 66th ANNUAL NORTH DADE JUSTICE CENTER LAW DAY On May 2, 2024, Judge Alexander S. Bokor was invited to give the keynote address at the 66th Annual North Dade Justice Center Law Day. Judge Bokor spoke on the importance of separation of powers in promoting the rule of law and guaranteeing individual liberties. The event was hosted by the Eleventh Judicial Circuit and the Judges of the North Dade Justice Center, and sponsored by several bar associations and community partners. Importantly, North Dade’s Law Day not only celebrates our constitutional system and brings together judges, lawyers, and community leaders, but also serves as an opportunity to speak, educate and answer questions from civic-minded students at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School. ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD On Thursday, April 11, 2024, the Honorable Norma S. Lindsey received the University of Miami School of Law’s prestigious Alumni Achievement Award. This award recognizes alumni nationally who have excelled in service to the legal profession. A commercial litigator before being appointed to the bench, Judge Lindsey throughout her career has been regularly appointed by governors and Supreme Court Justices to serve on critical commissions including the District Court Performance and Accountability Commission, the Judicial Nominating Commission, and the Florida Growth Management Study Commission, among many others. Yet she has always found time to lecture in law schools, teach at judicial conferences, and judge moot court competitions. A fun fact noted at the award ceremony was that Judge Lindsey was a star in track and field as an undergraduate. ORAL ARGUMENTS HELD AT ST. HENDON With a deep sense of loss, the judges of the note the death of their friend and colleague the Honorable Eric Wm. Hendon . Judge Hendon brought to this Court decades of experience as a trial lawyer, appellate advocate, and trial judge, as well as kindness, humor, and good fellowship. He relished his work as an appellate judge and spoke with pleasure of getting into the zone when steeping himself in legal analysis and writing. Judge Hendon’s opinions were known for their solid craftsmanship and embodied his commitment to justice. Judge Hendon lived a great life, overcoming much and achieving much. He was something of a child prodigy in music and education. He loved classical music, fine cars, and traveling to virtually every corner of the world with his wife, Diane Kennedy-Hendon.
